DINAMO BUKAREST from Romania won the eleventh edition of the international baseball tournament Finkstonball in Attnang-Puchheim. Twelve teams competed over four days against each other. BUKAREST beat the German second division club BAD HOMBURG HORNETS 3-2 in the finals. VINDIJA VARAZDIN secured third place with a victory against KRANJSKI LISJAKI in the bronze medal game. Regarding the side events: The Australian Luke Suters from the DORNBIRN INDIANS got the win in the homerun derby with seven homeruns in ten tries. The Austrian National Team won in front of 500 people in the stands the official opener against an all star squad 14-4 on Saturday. Dear Friends! 100 days until start of Finkstonball XI Baseball Tournament and today the last spot was filled by our croatian friends from BSK Vindija Varazdin. The following teams confirmed participation: 1. Attnang-Puchheim Athletics (AUT) 2. Oosterhout Twins (NED) 3. Hluboka Cardinals (CZE) 4. Baseball Club Zagreb (CRO) 5. Kranjski Lisjaki (SLO) 6. Dinamo Bucharest (ROM) 7. Domaclice Wolfs (CZE) 8. Dornbirn Indians (AUT) 9. Sissach Frogs (SUI) 10. Bad Homburg Hornets (GER) 11. Hellevoet Athletics (NED) 12. BSK Vindija Varazdin (CRO) Among the 12 Teams from 8 different countries we have 7 former Euro-Cup starters and very strong teams from the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Germany. Further we are very happy to welcome for the first time a team from Romania, Dinamo Bucharest! Those teams who have been to our tournament in the last years may notice some changes and further improvements on our facility. Last week we signed the contract for construction of our new stands with a seating capacity of 250 people. Works will already begin in two weeks and hopefully we can open our new stands with a great tournament! Visit our Website at www.athletics.fm (ballpark section) to follow the works! Right now we are working on the program for this years tournament. As you all probably know, the European Soccer Championships will take place in Austria and Switzerland in June 2008. As we have a lot of teams at Finkstonball XI from nations who are also qualified for the EURO 2008 our tournament was choosen as a special EURO 2008 promotion event. Right now we are negotiating that we get sponsorship for a big players BBQ after the opening game on Saturday evening. Further this years opening game will be a little different than in the years before. We could arrange that the Austrian Senior National Team will play the opening game against a Finkstonball All Star team! Two members of each team will be nominated by their coaches to the FBXI All-Star Team! As we would like use the mainfield as much as possible we could already start playing on Friday late afternoon if some teams arrive early. Hello friends of Finkstonball Baseballtournament! Details for Finkstonball XI will follow soon. Dates for 2008 Tournament are May, 9th - 12th (FRI-MON). There might be some changes which we are discussing right now (e.g. only wood bats allowed from semifinal on, probably some games already on Friday to use main field more).
